The notes (low to high)

E1 · A1 · D2 · G2 for a standard 4-string bass — an octave below the bottom four strings of a guitar. The tuner listens for those low notes and shows the nearest target so you can tune accurately by ear.

Bass tunings (tap to tune)

Standard — E A D G · open tuner. The default for rock, pop, funk and jazz.
Drop D — D A D G · Drop D bass tuner. Low E dropped to D for heavier styles.
Drop C — C G C F · open tuner. A whole step below Drop D.
Eb / half-step down — Eb Ab Db Gb · open tuner. When the band tunes down a semitone.

How to tune your bass

Open the bass tuner and allow microphone access.
Play one string at a time and read the needle.
Turn the peg until the note turns green (within ±5 cents).
Play in a quiet room and let each string ring for the cleanest reading.

Bass vs guitar tuning

A bass is tuned E A D G — the same letter names as a guitar's four lowest strings, but a full octave lower (E1, not E2). That's why a guitar tuner set to "guitar" can read an octave high on a bass; this page targets the real bass octaves.
